State Brochure Project

Hello Students!

Help my family decide where we will go next summer for our family vacation.  We love to see the natural wonders of the world and discover the beauty in new places around the US.

For this project, I would like you to carefully and thoughtfully choose a state to research and then make a travel brochure for.  You can fold the brochure into three parts so that it folds up easily.  Please use markers or colored pencils to create this project. Also, you will probably want to use a pen for the writing potion.  But think about and pre-write you content before you put it in your brochure. We will work on this the next couple of days in class.

In the brochure you must include this information:

-State name and a land form image on the front cover.

-Tell which region of the US this state is located in and if the state has a "nickname" or a slogan, tell what that is.

-Include information about any National Parks this state has and describe the highlights of the park or things that you may be able to see or do while vising the parks. If there are some notable state parks in this state, you may want to include a sections for State Parks as well.

-Make a section about "Other Attractions and Events" and include information about places of interest to visit and also information about any festivals this state might be known for celebrating.

-Some states have important monuments to help us remember past historical events and people.  If there are some monuments that you think should be included in the brochure, create a section called Monuments and tell what a person can see and learn while visiting the monument.

-Since most people like to have FUN on vacation, feel free to create a section called "Fun Things to Do" and feature some places to visit that would be family friends and allows kids and adults to have a great time.  This might be a water park, a zoo, a hiking trail, a museum.  Tell about as many things as you would like.

-Finally, include information about State Symbols. States have featured birds, flowers and other symbols that represent the state.  So some research and include this information.  If you want to include who the governor of the state is, you may do that as well! Don't forget to include the capital city of the state in this section.

BE CREATIVE!  USE COLOR.  MAKE THIS BROCHURE ATTRACTIVE.

You will be graded on your effort and also on whether or not you include the information I have asked you to include.  Have fun and good luck.  These aren't due until Friday by the end of the day.  You will have at least two days of class time.  Use DLE time to work on this also.

Here is a link to a really good example of a brochure.  Use it to help you organize and gets ideas for your own brochure. http://theinspiredclassroom.blogspot.com/2011/10/state-brochure.html
