The Root Beer Lady

I am probably more excited to read about the "Root Beer Lady" than all of you are, but let's see if my enthusiasm catches on, shall we?  The reason we are going to read about Dorothy Molter this week is because she's a unique pioneer (which is cool in case you don't know what cool really is) and this is a great resource for us to practice our reading skills with informational texts.  That last sentence was also almost a run on, but not quite.  Whew.  I encourage parents of my students to read along with us this week by clicking on the link below.  On Tuesday, February 19th we will celebrate the end of this unit by wearing flannel shirts (optional) to school and drinking root beer.  It might not be homemade root beer (because that would be hard to make and mine probably turn out tasting like smelly shoes or something equally unpleasant) but we will probably feel Dorothy's spirit as we sip on it anyway. Grab your paddles, we're about to embark on an adventure to Ely, Minnesota!
